Melissa Hewitt is an associate attorney focusing her practice on toxic tort, complex commercial litigation, and intellectual property matters. Her experience includes defending clients in depositions, negotiating contracts, drafting pleadings and motions, and drafting and negotiating licensing and transfer agreements (patents, trademarks, software, other technology). Melissa also has experience counseling clients regarding trademark and copyright protection and enforcement issues.
Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Ms. Hewitt worked as an attorney for an education technology startup where she advised on developing and implementing long-term intellectual property strategies that integrate the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Before that, she worked as a Law Clerk in the Office of the Chief Counsel for NASA, reviewing patent applications and drafting licensing agreements with Fortune 100 companies.
Ms. Hewitt earned her J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she served as Notes Editor of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies. Ms. Hewitt holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, and is licensed to practice in Illinois.
