Michael Barzyk is a shareholder in the firm's Ft. Lauderdale office and serves as chair of the firm's Construction practice group. He focuses on construction, medical malpractice defense, general liability and insurance defense. He has extensive experience in construction defect litigation, as well as with first-party insurance claims for catastrophic hurricanes and other losses. He has tried numerous cases to verdict in the property-casualty loss areas in various courts throughout Florida.
He is also a certified instructor with the State of Florida, Department of Financial Services and has provided licensed insurance adjusters continuing education to meet requirements under licensure with the state of Florida. He has provided CLE courses to members of legal organizations in Florida, as well as in-service presentations for insurance companies.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Barzyk was an assistant state attorney in Miami-Dade County for almost five years. While there, he litigated more than 40 jury trials to verdict. After leaving the state attorney's office, he went into private practice and litigated medical malpractice and complex personal injury cases.
He is currently a member of the Florida Bar, the Broward County Bar Association, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute. He is also on the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee.
He is admitted to the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
