Robin L. Burgess is of counsel in the firm’s Houston office. Focusing her practice in complex commercial litigation, environmental litigation and transportation law, she has extensive experience in all stages of litigation.
Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Ms. Burgess was an Administrative Law Judge at the Texas Department of Insurance where she was the decision maker in more than 1,100 contested case hearings on indemnity disputes and appeals of independent review organization determinations. She has handled pretrial discovery, motions, settlement agreements, issued subpoenas and orders, made findings of fact, conclusions of law and drafted written decisions.
Earlier in her career she served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Bronx County District Attorney's Office, as well as at a plaintiffs’ firm representing Social Security Disability benefits cases.
Ms. Burgess earned her J.D. from The CUNY School of Law, where she served as the Law Review Editor and on the Moot Court. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from The City University of New York.
She currently serves as immediate past president of the Houston Lawyers Association, fellow of the Texas State Bar and secretary of the Diversity in the Profession Committee for the State Bar of Texas. In 2019, during her term as President of the Houston Lawyers Association, Ms. Burgess also established two awards recognizing trailblazing attorneys, as well as those with exceptional leadership.
Outside of her work in the legal arena, Ms. Burgess is interested in traveling, community service and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
