Sal D. Phillips is an associate attorney in the firm's Chicago office focusing his practice on toxic tort litigation. He has experience in all stages of litigation, and has attended numerous discovery depositions and court calls, performed legal research, prepared legal memoranda, and has drafted and presented a variety of contested motions.
Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Mr. Phillips advised adjusters on coverage, legal issues, appropriate action, case progress and settlement ranges. He managed a wide variety of caseloads while assisting partners with various aspects of their cases, and helped to negotiate settlements on behalf of insurance companies.
Mr. Phillips earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Phillips served as President of the Black Law Students Association and VP of the American Constitution Society. He also interned as a law clerk with a Los Angeles-based criminal defense firm gaining experience in intensive trial preparation, practices, and procedures.
Before attending law school, Mr. Phillips received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in Marketing and Organizational Management from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. He was very active on and off campus, holding executive board positions on several school organizations and serving as a tutor to at-risk youth in the Atlanta Metropolitan area.
Mr. Phillips is currently admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Cook County Bar Association.
Outside of work, his interests include learning languages, reading, traveling and cooking.
