CHICAGO, IL – This month, Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney welcomes seven new associates to its Chicago office. Focusing their practices on toxic tort litigation, these associates bring a high level of knowledge and experience to the firm.
The new associates include Audrey Allen, Amanda J. Bell, Anderson C. Franklin, Sarah R. Hertz, James J. Moffitt, Sal D. Phillips, and Evan D. Powell.
Audrey Allen will concentrate her practice on the defense of toxic tort and construction-related matters. Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Ms. Allen worked as an attorney with a large Chicago-based construction company. She has significant experience negotiating contracts with subcontractors and owners and handling mechanics lien priority disputes. Ms. Allen received her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School where she served as Articles Editor for the Notre Dame Journal of International and Comparative Law.
Amanda Bell joins Segal McCambridge following work as in-house counsel for an international transportation and logistics company. Her practice will focus on defense of toxic tort claims. Ms. Bell is experienced in litigating complex cases, including attending depositions and appearing in court on behalf of her clients. She also has experience in transportation, corporate, and labor and employment law. She received her J.D. from Chicago-Kent School of Law with a certificate in Labor and Employment Law.
Anderson Franklin will join Segal McCambridge’s toxic tort litigation team after working as a judicial extern for the Honorable Sara Ellis in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and for the Honorable John Baker in the Indiana Court of Appeals. Mr. Franklin earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, graduating cum laude. While there, he served as Managing Editor for the Indiana Law Journal and received CALI Awards for the highest grade in Labor Law, Internet Law, and Constitutional History Colloquium.
Sarah Hertz will focus her practice on asbestos and toxic tort-related matters. She joins Segal McCambridge experienced in insurance defense litigation after having worked at an insurance defense firm in Chicago. Ms. Hertz has significant litigation experience, including deposition and motion practice, arbitration experience, and appearing in court on behalf of her clients. She received her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, graduating magna cum laude with certificates in both Advocacy and Child and Family Law.
James Moffitt joins Segal McCambridge’s Chicago office as an associate after having worked as a summer associate and law clerk at the firm. He will devote his practice to the defense of toxic tort claims. Mr. Moffitt received his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, graduating cum laude. While there, he served as an Indiana University mock trial coach and Managing Editor of the Indiana Law Journal.
Sal Phillips joins Segal McCambridge as an associate focusing his practice on toxic tort litigation. He previously worked at a firm where his practice was concentrated on the defense of workers’ compensation claims. There, he advised adjusters on coverage, legal issues, case progress, and settlement ranges. He managed a wide variety of caseloads while assisting partners on various aspects of their cases, and helped to negotiate settlements on behalf of insurance companies. Mr. Phillips earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law, serving as President of the Black Law Students Association and VP of the American Constitution Society.
Evan Powell comes to Segal McCambridge after working as a Cook County assistant state’s attorney where he litigated jury and bench trials to verdict, prosecuted misdemeanor offenses, researched and responded to pre and post-trial motions and appellate briefs, and petitioned for civil orders of protection. Mr. Powell received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, graduating cum laude. He was a two-time CALI Award recipient receiving the highest grade in Evidence and Criminal Juvenile Justice.
