SMSM Obtains Defense Verdict in Asbestos Exposure Case

December 5, 2005

Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney attorneys Ed McCambridge, Cameron Turner and Nicole Koviak obtained a defense verdict in an asbestos trial in McLean County, Illinois. The case involved a deceased operator who had worked for 40 years at the Illinois Power plant in Havana, Illinois. He claimed exposure to asbestos-containing gaskets and packing manufactured by defendant. SMSM defended the case on the basis that the decedent's injury was not consistent with asbestosis and that, even if the decedent had suffered from asbestosis, the defendant's products were incapable of causing such an injury. The plaintiff asked for $3 million for wrongful death damages.
