Segal McCambridge Founding Partner Donald Segal Celebrates 80th Birthday

Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney founding partner, Don Segal, celebrated his 80th birthday today in the firm's Chicago office amongst colleagues, some of whom he has worked with since the firm's earliest years. Segal, who is now Of Counsel, founded the firm after he and Epton partners, Edward McCambridge, Jeffrey Singer and William Mahoney, met in McCambridge's basement one Saturday night in 1986 and decided to form their own firm. The rest, as they say, is history.

In addition to a marked litigation career, Segal has always been touted the consummate mentor to attorneys within the firm— both experienced attorneys and younger ones. Segal’s lengthy career provided him opportunities he never imagined, including being able to realize his vision for the continued growth of a robust, innovative law firm. What started out as a four-lawyer shop in Chicago has grown over the course of 30 years to a nationally-recognized law firm in eight cities across the nation: Austin, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Jersey City, New York City, Philadelphia and St. Louis.

On Monday, Segal addressed colleagues and staff that had gathered to surprise him with birthday wishes. In typical fashion, Segal parted with words meant to inspire others: “I remember celebrating my 60th birthday with the firm back at the 20 South Clark office. And I’m right here where I want to be now on my 80th.  My wish for all of you is that you too will be where you want to be on your 80th birthday. It’s a wonderful life. It’s been a wonderful life.”
