Segal McCambridge Unveils Recipients of Inaugural Donald Segal Pro Bono Award

Segal McCambridge is proud to announce that The Chicago Bar Foundation and the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law will be the first-ever recipients of the Donald Segal Pro Bono Award.

The award, named after firm founding partner Donald Segal, honors his lifetime commitment of championing pro bono initiatives at the firm and beyond. It recognizes organizations that work to promote access to legal justice and equality in our communities.

“Don Segal has long been a stalwart of pro bono causes and has instilled in so many of our lawyers the virtues of giving back to the communities in which we live and work,” said Joseph Kish, head of the firm’s Pro Bono & Public Service Committee. “It is only fitting that we honor him with this award.”

This year, the $5,000 donation will be split between The Chicago Bar Foundation and the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

“Nearly 35 years ago, my fellow founding partners and I had a vision for a firm that would invest as much in our communities as we did with our clients,” said Don. “I am humbled that the firm has made this commitment in my honor and am grateful to our lawyers and staff who have generously given their time to advance the missions of these and other excellent organizations.”

Since 1928, The Chicago Bar Foundation has worked to improve access to justice for people in need and make the legal system more fair and efficient for everyone. It is the largest voluntarily supported bar foundation in the country, recognized as a local and national leader on access to justice issues and an international model for innovation in this work.

The Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law consists of civil rights lawyers and advocates working to secure racial equity and economic opportunity for all. The organization provides legal representation through partnerships with the private bar and collaborates with grassroots organizations and other advocacy groups to implement community-based solutions that advance civil rights.

Segal McCambridge serves corporate and insurance industry clients in a variety of litigation, providing strategic counsel and invoking a trial-ready approach in matters involving product liability, toxic torts, employment law, environmental law, premises liability and transportation law, as well as complex commercial disputes. The firm was founded in 1986 in Chicago and boasts offices in Austin, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston, Jersey City, New York, Philadelphia and St. Louis.
